Welcome to Three Mile Lake. If you are experiencing a sense of deja-vu, don’t worry. We have mentioned Three Mile Lake before. This time, we are talking about Three Mile Lake - Muskoka Lakes, not to be confused with the other two lakes (one in Armour and the other southeast of Gravenhurst). This Three Mile Lake is nestled between Rosseau, 24 kilometres to the north, and Port Carling, 20 kilometres to the south. It has a surface area of 8.7 square kilometres, and a shoreline perimeter of over 31 kilometres. The lake’s unique shape and its rugged beauty are what keep visitors coming back year after year.
Activities at Three Mile Lake are not hard to come by. For you boat lovers out there, the lake allows motorized vehicles and the public boat launch is located on Shea Road, on the south side of the lake. Due to its shallow and narrow depths, Three Mile Lake - Muskoka Lakes is best suited for boats up to 20 feet long. So grab your boat, and head out to Hammell’s Bay. As the deepest part of the lake, you should have no trouble at all catching a bite here. A healthy fish population of smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, and, most notably, walleye live within the depths of the lake. The Three Mile Lake Association held their Annual Family Fishing Derby this past August. Sound like fun?
For those adventurous water sports enthusiasts, wakeboarding and wave surfing are extremely popular activities on the lake, as are personal watercraft like Wave Runners and JetSkis. Or, if a simple swim is more your style, this lake's many bays and inlets offer splendid conditions for a dip. If you head over to Echo Beach, on the eastern side of Hammell’s Bay, you’ll find this entire area is a hard-packed sandy shore. So grab your beach blanket or set up a volleyball net and have at it.
If you’re looking to get away from the lake for a while, you’ll discover a series of great golf courses only a short drive away, such as Windermere Golf & Country Club and Diamond in the Ruff Golf Club. And if you want to venture even farther out, there are several more courses in Port Carling and around Lake Joseph. And while you’re in the picturesque town of Port Carling, why not take advantage of the best that Muskoka has to offer? You’ll discover a cornucopia of restaurants and shops to explore. Whether it is items you need for the cottage or trendy gifts for the family and friends at home, you are sure to find them there.
