One of the best things about living in and visiting the Muskoka area is enjoying some of Ontario's most beautiful natural landscapes. Immerse yourself in the wilds of cottage country and unleash your adventurous side as you explore some of Ontario’s best parks.
Cottage country boasts several unique provincial parks just waiting to be explored. Let’s take a look at Ragged Falls Provincial Park.
Ragged Falls Park is a small, day-use park on the outskirts of Algonquin Park that operates from mid-May to mid-October. It features a hiking trail only one kilometre long but ends with a breathtaking glimpse of Ragged Falls. The falls are especially beautiful “in the winter when some parts are frozen, and other parts are still flowing,” as discovered by Realtor® Nancy Carr. The park offers washroom access and marked hiking trails that lead to a lookout over the falls, which is particularly stunning during the spring. You’ll need to hike down a short path to reach the falls, but the view makes it more than worth the effort. Depending on the time of year –– and how slippery it is –– you can even venture onto the rocks for an epic view from ground level.
It’s important to note that visitors can also access the falls by water. Outdoor adventurers often kayak or canoe to the falls from Oxtongue Lake. This trip allows paddlers to take in the sights along the river culminating in a unique view of the falls from the bottom.
So, if you’re looking for a nice brisk hike that finishes with a fantastic view of one of the top ten waterfalls in Ontario, Ragged Falls is a wonderful choice. And its proximity to Algonquin Park is an added bonus. So, make it a day or weekend trip and take in both parks.
Please visit the Ontario Parks Website for more information on this or any other Ontario Park.
