Royal LePage Lakes of Muskoka Realty Presents: Loon Lake - Lake of the Week

Posted by John O'Rourke on Thursday, August 8th, 2019 at 9:44am.

Are you looking for a lakeside getaway? Well, Loon Lake is calling! This lake is located northwest of the Town of Gravenhurst, which has all amenities including groceries, gas, and local markets. Loon Lake is a part of the local headwaters, meaning it provides the water that flows into Turtle Lake and drains into Morrison Creek.

Loon Lake is a perfect spot for nature enthusiasts. A few minutes down the road you will find the trailhead for Old Stone Road Trail. Along the 6 kilometre hike, you will be able to experience one of Muskoka’s original roads that used to connect Bala to Gravenhurst. It even joins up with Devil’s Gap trail if you want to extend your hike. The area has over three hundred plant species and is a part of the Loon Lake Wetland Conservation Reserve.

The lake has a long scenic shoreline with plenty of sand for your feet to enjoy. Popular activities on the water are canoeing, sailing, and swimming. There are a lot of places to explore as Loon Lake is connected to Turtle Lake by a canal. After a long day of activities, there is nothing like sitting on the dock to watch the sunset.
