Muskoka has some of Ontario's most beautiful natural landscapes. Locals and visitors alike enjoy exploring our little piece of cottage country. Here, outdoor enthusiasts partake in fun outdoor activities on snow-covered trails while taking in breathtaking nature and abundant wildlife.
Cottage country boasts several unique provincial parks just waiting to be visited. Let’s take a look at Arrowhead Park.
Arrowhead Park is one of the most delightful outdoor attractions in the Huntsville area. Covering an area of over 12 square km and full of exciting outdoor activities all year round, this destination is a must-see. You might even come back a day or so later to check out all you missed on your first visit.
Arrowhead is a great place to unplug and take a step into nature. During the winter months, the park is truly magnificent. There are 28 km of classic ski trails and 16 km of skate-ski trails, ranging from beginner to expert level. If skiing isn’t for you, try exploring the 8+ km of marked snowshoe trails. There’s even off-trail snowshoeing through the forest for more adventure-seeking visitors. There’s even a tubing hill to provide hours of family-friendly, heart-pumping activity. And anyone needing equipment can rent skis, snowshoes and ice skates at the Visiter’s Centre.
Royal LePage Broker Paul Pilon describes the cross-country trails as “perfect” and the outdoor skating trail loop as “quite fun.” Skaters will appreciate the skate loop’s small decline –– a first for a skate trail –– and find the warm-up shelters and bonfire on site are a bonus. The skating loop sometimes gets busy, especially when night skates are held. It’s a good idea to check the park conditions before you leave home because some activities could be closed.
Arrowhead Provincial Park offers overnight camping, so feel free to kick back and stay a while. We recommend reserving one of Arrowhead's 13 rustic cabins for a cozy winter camping experience. These one-room cabins sleep five and include a kitchenette, dining table for meals and mattresses for a restful sleep. Outside you will find a gas barbeque and picnic table.
Arrowhead Park is open all year-round. However, not all facilities and activities are offered at all times. In addition, like any provincial park, the use of Arrowhead Park requires a valid park permit. Depending on your length of stay and what you plan to do at the park, fees will vary. Please visit the Ontario Parks Website for more information or to make reservations.
